KCB was hired in March of 2018 to design a system that could condition 7,000 CFM of outside air for the kitchen hood ventilation system for the onsite commercial restaurant. This project presented many challenges. The kitchen space was located on the first floor. The original make up air fan was in the ceiling of the kitchen space and it pulled fresh air through an outside air
louver. The design and engineering team produced a solution to put a new conditioned make up air system in the parking garage below the kitchen. We had the kitchen floor x-rayed so a floor penetration could be made below the fresh air louver on the first floor. That penetration allowed our team to duct fresh air into the parking garage, through the new system and condition it so it could be ducted back into the kitchen space where it tied into the original duct system. KCB provided a Greenheck make up air unit that had 320 MBH of direct fired heat and a chilled water coil capable of providing 406 MBH of cooling capacity. The new unit was designed with a direct drive motor, thus eliminating the need for a belt. The panels were designed with hinged access allowing for quick and easy access to the internal components of the new unit. At the conclusion of the project Greenheck sent a factory-certified technician to start the unit up and verify operation. KCB verified that proper installation and operation standards were adhered to at the completion of the project.
